Gonzales Preschool takes pride in building a sense of community both among our close-knit group of children and families, and within the larger community of Oak Bay and Victoria. We believe that by contributing in a meaningful way to the greater whole in the preschool years is integral to teaching children how to be a vital citizen for life.
Our typical year of giving back includes an annual food drive. Each December we choose donate as a school to families in need. Typically we either adopt a specific family for the holiday season, or gather specific requested goods for charity. Each spring we host a used book sale with proceeds going to buy school supplies for children who do not have access to them.
Our Annual Beach Clean-Up is a cherished Gonzales Preschool event. It is the preschool’s way of giving back to our local community for all its support. Gonzales Preschool children and families spend a morning picking up garbage at several beaches and parks in our local community. This is an opportunity for our children to generate a wider community spirit and responsibility for our natural environment. Each year the beach clean-up falls around Earth Day giving our teachers, children and families a chance to reflect on our planet and our roles in taking of it. We then gather at the preschool for a favourite event: the annual Pancake Social.
We are also wildly enthusiastic participants in the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade, spreading our own brand of joy and fun.
We approach each activity from a learning perspective and the children are a vital part of each community building activity. We believe this further encourages children to think beyond themselves and become caring thoughtful community participants
